Gaels run in Jewell

JEWELL — With weather calling off the Fort Dodge Invitational, the St. Edmond cross country teams headed to the Jim Klein Invitational hosted by South Hamilton here at Jewell Golf Course Thursday.

The Gael girls placed sixth overall with the boys finishing in 10th. Gilbert won both team titles and the boys race behind Reese Tyler, with Sophia Jungliang of Aplington-Parkersburg the individual champion on the girls side.

Abby Landwehr placed sixth overall to lead St. Edmond, clocking a time of 20:56. She held off Aplington-Parkersburg’s Lily Hovenga and Megan Johnson at the finish.

“The times for our kids were phenomenal,” SEHS head coach Mike Szalat said. “We worked them very hard up until last week but we set a lot of personal records on the day.”

Aubrey Bemrich placed 18th (21:37), Caroline Shelly was 41st (22:35), Kelli Kersten 46th (22:51), Aleksandria Aljets 69th (23:45), Leah Johnson 71st (23:47) and Olivia Kolacia 76th (24:07).

Eagle Grove was ninth with Lea Friedl placing 21st overall and Webster City finished 15th with Jacie Crutcher earning 45th.

Jed Tracy led the way for the Gael boys, as he finished 18th in 17:37. Grant Heldorfer was 47th (18:57), Parker Oswald 66th (19:42), Hayden Mayer 71st (19:47), Ryan Duckett 73rd (19:50), Charlie Shelly 75th (19:52) and Connor Bocken 82nd (20:03).

“Jed had a personal record and just had a great day overall in a very tough field,” Szalat said. “Parker jumped up with a PR, Grant had a great time and our back moved up like we wanted.”

Webster City was seventh as John Piaszynski finished in 17th overall and Max Harfst was 34th. Eagle Grove finished 12th as Jon Koester was 30th.

Next action for St. Edmond and the Lynx will be on Tuesday at the North Central Conference Invitational hosted by Hampton.
