ANKENY — The Fort Dodge baseball team earned a much-needed sweep over Tuesday vs. Ankeny.

Scores were 6-4 and 2-0.

Kade Solverson tossed a three-hitter in the nightcap for the Dodgers (13-18 overall), striking out three with two walks. Solverson retired the final batter with a strikeout with a runner on second.

“I can’t say enough about the work Kade has put in,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “He has worked his tail off year in and year out, and now, he is reaping those rewards.”

Anthony Wagner had two hits and drove in a run, with Lucas Williamson also plating a run. Drake Miller and Bryer Nelson scored in the victory.

In the opener, Miller, Mason Bodholdt, Nelson and Mason Bockoven all had two hits. Williamson, Bodholdt, Nelson, Bockoven, Drew Zimmermann and Nick Bice each drove in a run.

Drew Callon pitched the first six innings, striking out five to earn the win. Nate Scherff pitched the seventh for a save.

“Nate is still battling an injury, but we told him if we needed to, we’d use him in relief,” Utley said. “He came in and pitched a great inning for us to close the door.

“We didn’t get a lot of hits, but we got timely ones.”

Williamson plated Callon for the game-winning run and Bockoven drove in Williamson after a double-steal for an insurance run.

Fort Dodge returns to action on Friday at Sioux City East.
