MASON CITY — The 15th-ranked (Class 5A) Fort Dodge softball team picked up a sweep over Mason City here Wednesday night in a CIML Iowa Conference doubleheader.

Scores were 6-1 and 10-0 in five innings.

The win was the 600th in the coaching career of Fort Dodge’s Andi Adams, who recently passed Ed McNeil for the most victories in school-history. Adams also won her 400th career game vs. Mason City.

Jalen Adams tossed a one-hitter in the opener, striking out four inside the circle. Bre Tjebben and Kaden Pederson each had two hits, and Haley Willis drove in two from the No. 9 spot in the lineup.

The Dodgers (12-2 overall, 5-1 in the league) plated four runs in the seventh off Mason City’s Alyssa Alert.

“It was obviously a close game there until the seventh,” Adams said. “Jalen did a nice job, as she really only made one mistake, which (Sami Miller) connected on with a homer. But she didn’t walk too many batters and got herself out of jams.”

In the nightcap, Fort Dodge plated six runs in the second and added two more in the third before finishing things off early for sophomore Katelyn Werning.

Werning tossed a four-hitter, striking out one. Adams was 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a run, with both Tjebben and Tristin Doster driving in two each.

Aubrey Davis had two hits and Chloe Wertz scored twice.

“Bre has just been hitting the ball great all year,” Adams said. “We’ve come to just expect that from her, but she deserves all the credit for stepping up as one of only two seniors (with Pederson) and leading this team.

“Katelyn was in command (in the circle).”

Sophie Klinger also scored twice in the second game, as eight different FDSH players crossed home plate.

The Dodgers return to action Thursday night when they host Des Moines East at Rogers Park at 6 p.m.

The Scarlets scored a 9-5 victory over Fort Dodge this past weekend at the West Des Moines Valley Shootout.
