The Iowa Central softball team scored a doubleheader sweep over Ellsworth here Tuesday afternoon at Rogers Park.

Scores were 17-0 in five innings and 8-7.

The Tritons (28-23 overall, 8-8 in the ICCAC) finished off the two wins in dramatic fashion, as Destiny Perry recorded a two-RBI walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh.

Alyssa Dema connected on a three-run homer an inning earlier in the contest. Iowa Central won all four games this season with Ellsworth.

“Our kids showed a lot of fight,” ICCC head coach Rick Sandquist said. “We had a lot of good energy, especially in that first game, and it feels like we are playing better.”

Jenna Peschel also drove in a pair in the one-run win for the Tritons, as Kallie Malloy came on for the victory inside the circle by striking out four. Alexis Egan also stole two bases in the game.

The Panthers were coming off a split with third-ranked Kirkwood recently.

“Ellsworth was coming in pretty high after that split with Kirkwood,” Sandquist said. “To come out and score seven in the first against them showed that we were ready to play.”

In the opener, Peschel drove in four runs on two hits and Kennedy Newell had three RBI on two hits with two runs scored. Cheyenne Andersen had three runs and a pair of RBI.

Jessa May pitched a two-hitter, striking out three over five innings of work.

Next action for Iowa Central is Wednesday in Estherville vs. Iowa Lakes. They return home Thursday vs. Morningside JV.
