Dodger girls blank Marshalltown, 2-0

MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge girls soccer team rebounded from an overtime loss to Des Moines Roosevelt by blanking Marshalltown here Tuesday night, 2-0.

Raeya Love knocked in both goals in the first half for the Dodgers (3-1 overall), who also pitched a shutout vs. Des Moines East in their season opener.

“Raeya was the star of the night,” FDSH head coach Michael Lee said. “She really put it together. By scoring those two early goals, it allowed us to play a disciplined second half.”

Love, who has signed with Iowa Central to continue her soccer career, recorded eight shots on goal. Love has four goals on the season.

Liza Van Zyl, a Drake University signee, made six saves.

“I didn’t see any holes in our defense,” Lee said. “We had some errors in our overtime loss to Roosevelt, but we cleaned those mistakes up.”

Fort Dodge returns to action on Friday, hosting seventh-ranked (Class 3A) West Des Moines Dowling inside Dodger Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

In the junior varsity contest, Fort Dodge won 3-0. Leah Johnson, Sophie Dooley and Clare Fleming all had goals for the Dodgers.
