Tritons swim in South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Iowa Central swim team competed against a handful of Div. I teams here Saturday at the Coyote Invitational hosted by the University of South Dakota.

In the 100 butterfly, Lasse Jorgensen finished first and former Fort Dodge Senior High standout Mitchell Emery was second.

Jorgensen finished in 52.26 and Emery went 52.48.

“We had several lifetime bests and personal-bests,” ICCC head coach Joe Plane said. “The kids came up and swam against some pretty good competition. I thought we performed pretty well.”

Karter Shimon also was first, as he captured the mile in 17:24.

Ian Crowl, a former Dodger, qualified for nationals in three events, as the Tritons have now advanced their entire team to nationals, which are in March.

Sandra Alonso-Rivas led the Iowa Central women, placing fifth in the 100 I.M. The sophomore broke her own school-record with a swim of 1:00.50. She also tied for eighth in the 50 free.

The Tritons will host the Midwest Cup at the Dodger pool on Friday and Saturday.
