North Union stuns defending champs
HARTLEY — Senior Hallie Reese banked in the game-winning shot, sending North Union to the Class 2A state tournament with a 50-48 victory over No. 4 Western Christian.
The 10th-ranked Warriors (21-2 overall) have won three in a row and are 8-1 over their last nine with the lone loss coming to No. 4 (3A) Osage.
With time winding down and heavily defended, Reese tossed up an off-balance shot that somehow found its way in, setting off a wild celebration for North Union.
Western Christian, the defending state champions, ends its season 20-4. They had won 10 of 11 entering the night.
Last year, North Union had its season come to an end at Hull vs. the Wolfpack, 74-46.
The Warriors meet Panorama (23-1) next Wednesday at 11:45 a.m.
