WEST DES MOINES — The top-ranked Fort Dodge wrestling team didn’t show any signs of rust, as they cruised to a 57-18 victory over Dowling on Thursday night.

The Dodgers (6-0 overall) won 10 of the 12 matches wrestled, recording falls in nine of the 10 matches to easily prevail.

“We wrestled very aggressive and took care of business,” said Fort Dodge head coach Bobby Thompson. “You never know how the team is going to responded after a long layoff.

“We got a lot of pins and wrestled aggressive for takedowns and falls (to score bonus points).”

Winning by fall for the Dodgers were second-ranked Drake Ayala (106), No. 10 Brooks Cowell (120), No. 1 Brody Teske (126), No. 1 Drew Bennett (132), No. 2 Drevon Ross (138), No. 3 Damond Lockner, No. 1 Cayd Lara (152), No. 7 Levi Egli (160) and No. 5 Kaden Smith (170).

Sixth-ranked Carson Taylor (113) picked up a decision.

“Carson and Drevon had the toughest matches on the night,” Thompson said. “Those were Dowling’s best two wrestlers. Carson was one point away from a major and Drevon earned the fall.

“Brooks stepped in for Kody (Cook) and went back-and-forth with his guy and earned the victory.”

Winning junior varsity matches for the Dodgers were Dreyzon Phillips, Michael Schroeder, Brandon Mills, Keegan Lynch and Dustin Handy.

The Dodgers will be back in action on Saturday when they travel for the Iowa City West Invitational. Action is set to begin at 9 a.m.
