Humboldt, E’Burg capture titles in EG

EAGLE GROVE –The Humboldt and Emmetsburg girls came away with team titles at the Dick Bell Invitational on Tuesday in Eagle Grove.

The Wildcats were champions in Class A with 27 points and the E-Hawks won the Class B crown with 51 points.

All five of Humboldt’s counting runners placed in the Top-12.

Bryce Gidel (19:47) was the champion, followed by teammate Gabby Kent (20:18). Lauren Erickson (21:08) and Isabella Luu (21:08) were sixth and seventh respectively for the Wildcats, while Elizabeth Hildreth (21:42) was 11th.

Algona’s Hailey Schmidt (22:04) was 14th and Ashley Steenhoek (23:10) was 19th. Kelsey Connick (23:29), Carley Mullins (23:46) and Emily Deal (23:48) were 23rd, 25th and 26th respectively.

The Bulldogs were third with 105 points.

Clarion-Goldfield/Dows top runner was Stephanie Castro (24:26) in 33rd.

In Class B, Eagle Grove (60) was third and Bishop Garrigan was fifth with 123 points.

The E-Hawks had three runners finish in the Top-5.

Raven Brown (20:39) was the winner for the E-Hawks. Emmetsburg’s Hailey Foxhoven (21:43) and Gabrielle Janssen (21:45) were third and fourth respectively.

Eagle Grove’s Megan Schafer (22:10) finished sixth, while teammate Megan Sampson (22:28) was eight and Kaitlin Sampson (22:42) was 10th. Lea Friedl (22:58) was 14th.

Bishop Garrigan’s top finisher was Emory Miller (23:14).

On the boys side, Eagle Grove earned the top area finish, placing third with 74 points. Emmetsburg was fourth (96) and Bishop Garrigan (189) was sixth.

Newman won the title with 37 points.

North Union’s Riley Bauer (16;44) was the individual champion.

Emmetsburg’s Cruz Bowman (17:40) finished second.

Eagle Grove’s Spencer Espejo (18:15) was sixth and teammate Jon Koester (18:45) was 12th. Jacob Arbaugh (19:23) and Derek Graham (19:30) were 17th and 18th respectively.

Dawson Moen (19:31) rounded out the Top-10 finishes for the E-Hawks in 19th.

Joseph Meis (19:43) had the top finish for Bishop Garrigan in 25th.

In Class A Humboldt was the highest area finish in fourth (96th). Algona was fifth (140) and Clarion-Goldfield/Dows (172).

Gilbert (43) was the champion.

Humboldt’s Quinton Orr (17:37) and Denny Pederson (17:39) were seventh and eighth respectively. Algona’s Trey Engen was sixth in 17:26.

Clarion-Goldfield/Dows top finisher was Luke Rapp (18:43).
