BOONE — The St. Edmond volleyball team had their season come to an end here Thursday night, calling in a regional semifinal to Woodward-Granger.

Scores were 25-17, 25-18 and 25-18.

The Hawks advance to the Class 2A, Region 3 final set for Tuesday in Underwood against Council Bluffs St. Albert. St. Albert ousted ACGC in three last night.

“All in all, our girls put up a good fight and never backed down,” SEHS head coach Dee Huss said. “We knew going in we couldn’t match up with their height and in the first set, we gave up too many points on ball-handling errors and service errors.

“We had some good rallies in certain rotations, but struggled in others.”

Senior Hannah Huss led the Gaels (17-14 overall) with 11 kills, three aces, 17 digs and an assist, with classmate Livi Huss adding six digs, two kills and adding 17 assists to her school-record total.

Hannah Schaeffer, the third senior on the SEHS roster, chipped in four kills.

“My seniors should be very proud of the level they have raised our program to,” Huss said. “I know it stings right now, as it should, but they gave it their best shot and helped make St. Edmond volleyball a better program.

“I always tell my seniors it is their job to not only lead, but to give back to the younger players and make them aspire to put in the hard work.”

Erin Flattery had six kills, Josie Huss two kills and seven digs, and Macey Mason had 11 digs. Jacque Oberg was 13-for-13 serving with five digs and Devyn Scott contributed two kills and two digs.

“Our fan base has grown over the past couple years and I attribute that to our players and all the hard work they have put in,” Huss said. “I appreciate everyone that helped our season run smoothly. (Assistant coach) Josephine Alstott was a huge catch for our coaching staff and we work so well together. I look forward to working with her in the future.”

Hannah Huss finished the year with 366 kills, which led all North Central Conference players. She also had 55 aces on the season.

“Hannah did whatever she could whenever could to be a well-rounded player,” Huss said. “She had a lot of pressure on her to perform night in and night out, but she will be the first to tell you it’s not about her; volleyball is a team sport.”

Livi Huss led the NCC in assists with 621 on the season, adding 142 digs. Schaeffer had 132 kills this year.

“Livi was a four-year starter and has grown into her position,” Huss said. “She has had a great group of players through the years to lean on. Filling her shoes is one of our top priorities if we want to keep this program moving in the right direction.

“And Hannah (Schaeffer) grew as a person and teammate this year. She did a nice job and she should be proud of her accomplishments.”

For their Gael careers, Hannah Huss had 938 kills and Livi Huss had 1,688 assists.
