Cougars top Eagles

EAGLE GROVE — Manson Northwest Webster handed Eagle Grove its first loss of the season, winning 21-6.

Derek Girard threw two touchdowns for the Cougars (2-2 overall, 1-1 in district). Girard threw a 28-yard scoring strike to Brian Pearson and a 23-yard scoring play to Keegan Pritchard.

Blake Larsen scored on a one yard touchdown for the Cougars.

Reid Steinberg had nine carries for 45 yards.

Girard finished the night 8-for-15 for 158 yards and two scores.

Pritchard finished with three catches for 63 yards.

Brayden Lyman had the lone touchdown for the Eagles (3-1, 1-1) from 44 yards out.

Lyman finished with 131 yards on 24 carries and an interception.

McAlister records five TDs

LAKE CITY — Chase McAlister led the high powered South Central Calhoun offense on Friday night with five touchdowns.

The Titans (3-1 overall, 2-0 in district) beat Shenandoah (0-4, 0-2) 72-7.

McAlister finished with five touchdowns. He rushed for 204 yards on five carries and three scores. He reached the end zone on runs of 85, 76 and 35 yards.

He also returned a punt 60 yards for a score and caught a 26 yard scoring pass from Hunter Muhlbauer.

Jonathon Frantz rushed for 66 yards on 13 carries and two scores, reaching paydirt on runs of 12 and six yards.

Muhlbauer had a 18-yard touchdown run.

Landon Schleisman had a 43-yard touchdown and Jaydon Maschke scored from one-yard out.

Muhlbauer finished 5-for-7 passing for 118 yards.

The Titans had 532 yards of total offense and 414 yards on the ground.

Garrigan knocks off NU

ARMSTRONG — The fourth-ranked Bishop Garrigan football team defeated North Union 22-6 on Friday night.

Drew Bacha had two touchdowns for the Golden Bears (4-0 overall, 2-0 district). Bacha ran for 95 yards on 15 carries.

Brad Capesius had nine carries for 92 yards.

Zack Muller had a touchdown run.

Muller had 15 tackles and Drake Buscherfeld had 12 tackles as well.

Eric Thul had six tackles for the Golden Bears.

The Golden Bears had 274 yards of offense against North Union (1-3, 0-2).

Williams runs for 336

JEFFERSON — Zane Williams did it again.

For the second straight Friday night, the Webster City tailback ran for more than 300 yards, becoming the only back in school history to do so.

Williams led the sixth-ranked Lynx (4-0 overall, 2-0 in district) to a 40-18 victory over Greene County.

Williams, who had 302 yards last Friday, ran for 336 on 27 carries against the Rams (0-4, 0-2). The total is the third highest total on the school’s all-time chart.

Williams had touchdown runs of 80, 66 and 38.

Dylan Steen threw three touchdown passes on the night. Connecting 42 and eight yards to Jordan Tanner and a 66-yard scoring strike to Trace Kepler.

The school’s all-time single game record is 369, set by Gavin Dinsdale in 2014.

Steen was 5-for-14 passing for 139 yards.

Webster City had 565 yards of total offense and 426 on the ground.

Jags earn first win

RED OAK — Southeast Valley earned its first victory of the season on Friday night, knocking off Red Oak 7-3.

The Jaguars (1-3 overall, 1-1 in district) got its lone touchdown from Kenny Blunk from two yards out.

Nolan Johnson had five catches for 69 yards to lead the Southeast Valley offense.

Hunter Kruse was 11-for-19 passing for 142 yards.

The Jaguars had 276 yards of offense.

Algona edges Wildcats, 16-13

ALGONA — Algona held on for a 16-13 victory over Humboldt on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (3-1 overall, 1-1 in district) burst out to a 16-0 lead, before Humboldt rallied.

Jacob Durant had a 65-yard touchdown run for the Bulldogs and Matt Grein had a one-yard score.

Spencer Holmes kicked a 33-yard field goal.

Joey Busse and Jamison Heinz had a strong connection on the night. Busse hooked up with Heinz on touchdown passes of 80 and 22 yards.

Busse finished 15-for-25 passing for 222 yards for the Wildcats.

Heinz had five catches for 133 yards.

Alex Vitzthum had 19 carries for 90 yards.
