ALGONA — The fourth-ranked (Class 3A) Humboldt softball team clinched their second consecutive North Central Conference title here Wednesday night, besting Algona, 8-3.

The Wildcats (26-4 overall) scored three in the second after the No. 10 (3A) Bulldogs got on the board with three runs in the first. They added one more in the fourth and four more in the sixth.

Freshman Ellie Jacobson had 10 strikeouts, while Olivia Birdsell and Avery Terwilliger each went 3-for-4 at the plate.

The Wildcats have won four in a row and eight straight in the NCC since a 2-0 setback against Algona earlier this year.

Carlie Thompson, Mady Lange and Birdsell all had doubles for Humboldt, while Emma Hjelle and Kam Etherington had extra-base hits for Algona, which had its three-game win streak snapped.
