Gaels hold off Bulldogs

HAMPTON — Nick O’Brien put together another strong outing, helping the Gaels to a 3-2 victory over Hampton-Dumont.

O’Brien (3-1) went 4ª, allowed five hits and struck out 10 batters. He has 21 strikeouts in his last 11ª pitched.

“Nick has really had one bad inning this season (against Remsen),” said St. Edmond head coach Joe Shanks. “He had a little control problem and was having troubles with the first pitch.

“He threw well and had a lot of strikeouts again.”

Connor Allison led the Gaels at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases.

“Connor didn’t play last year, but has been solid since day 1 after returning from soccer,” Shanks said. “The two brothers (Connor and Cole) feed off each other and they’re two good leadoff hitters to have up there.”

Nick Bennett and Sam Dougall each had an RBI.

“Our pitching is coming around and we’re starting to make plays,” Shanks said. “They’re starting to believe in themselves.

“We’ve got a little run going and their confidence is up.”

The Gaels are back in action today when they host Eagle Grove. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
