Fort Dodge drops a pair

URBANDALE — The Fort Dodge baseball team dropped a doubleheader with Urbandale here Friday night.

Scores were 9-0 and 11-3.

The games were originally scheduled for Ed McNeil Field, but after no umpires could be found, they were moved.

For the Dodgers (10-22 overall), Tyrnan Lara finished the night 4-for-7 with two doubles and an RBI, while Nate Scherff collected two hits in the opener.

“We have up too many big innings,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “Urbandale hit the ball well. We had chances to get out of innings, but our mistakes piled on.

“I know we’ve been working and making progress, but it is now July and we have to show it.”

Urbandale plated five quick runs in the opening game and also had a five-run inning in the nightcap.

The Dodgers return to action on Monday when they travel to top-ranked (Class 4A) Johnston.
