Dodgers ready to host FD Invite

The Fort Dodge softball team will host the annual Fort Dodge Invitational over the next two days at Rogers Park.

The field will be made up of 16 teams on Diamond 1, Diamond 2 and Dodger Field in the mini-major area.

Half of the programs included in this weekend’s action are ranked squads.

No. 4 Newell-Fonda is the lone 1A ranked school. Top-rated North Union and No. 15 BCLUW are in the 2A Top-15.

No. 5 Solon and No. 6 Atlantic are rated in 3A.

No. 4 Winterset and No. 5 Sioux City Heelan are ranked in 4A, and No. 11 West Des Moines Dowling is the only ranked 5A school.

The Dodgers, who were 12th last week, dropped out of this week’s rankings.

Also in the field is Clear Creek-Amana, Ankeny, Sioux City East, Graettinger-Terril, Iowa City West, Jesup, and Harlan.

Fort Dodge (9-10 overall) will face Harlan in the first round. The Dodgers take the field at 3 p.m. on Diamond 1.

With a victory, the Dodgers would play on Diamond 1 at 7 p.m. against the winner of Newell-Fonda and North Union.

If the Dodgers lose, they’ll play at 5 p.m. on Dodger Field against the loser of Newell-Fonda and North Union.

Action will begin at 9 a.m. on Diamond 1 with Atlantic and Ankeny and on Diamond 2 will be Clear Creek-Amana and Dowling.

There will be two ranked matchups in the first round with No. 4 Winterset and No. 5 Bishop Heelan.

Top-ranked North Union will face No. 4 Newell-Fonda.

The tournament will continue on Saturday with the semifinals on Diamonds 1 and 2 at 3 p.m.

The championship will be at 7p.m. on Diamond 1 and the third place game will be at 7 p.m. on Diamond 2.
