Dodgers swim at Johnston

JOHNSTON – On the heels of their title-winning performance this past weekend at home, the Fort Dodge girls swim team tried something new here Tuesday night at Johnston.

Dodger head coach Ashley Koons put swimmers in different races to mix things up. The Dragons claimed the dual, 126-59.

“We wanted to give them a chance to swim their off-events,” Koons said. “That was what we went for all-around. We weren’t expecting a real close dual meet (in terms of score); we wanted to try something new.”

Junior Taylor Hartley captured the 100 fly in 1:02.73, while Elora Fierke was second in the 500 in 5:43.50.

Fort Dodge also had a runner-up showing from the medley relay of Luanne Xiao, Gretta Leigh, Hartley and Madigan Peimann, as they went 1:59.94.

The Dodgers are back in action next Tuesday at home against West Des Moines Dowling.
