The St. Edmond girls put a stamp on their regular season here Tuesday night following a 52-19 loss to Hampton-Dumont/CAL.

Now, they turn all of their attention to the start of the postseason and a rematch from two years ago with Ankeny Christian.

Josie Harvey scored seven points with six rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot, while Anna Lursen added two points, four rebounds, three steals and a block for the Gaels.

“We just cannot come out flat,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We put ourselves in such a hole early that it makes it impossible to really fight back into games like this.

“If we want to have a chance Thursday, we need to be better right from the opening tip.”

The Bulldogs scored the first 11 points before Lauren Gibb for St. Edmond on the board. Gibb, a sophomore who missed the past few games with a concussion, was again knocked from this contest after taking a hard fall.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL continued to take advantage of its press and quickness, leading 24-4 after the first and by 25 at the half. In the third, though, the Gaels outscored them, 9-4, as Harvey posted all seven of her points.

“We did some good things there in the third,” Tracy said. “When we don’t turn the ball over and we work in our offense, we can really execute. We’ve just got to give ourselves more of those chances.”

For the Bulldogs, Jordan Valley scored 13 and twin sister Brooklyn Valley added 12. Brooklyn Valley had eight steals and Lily Hambly had 11 points with 13 rebounds.

Tip in the Thursday night Class 1A, Region 2 contest is set for 7 p.m. in Ankeny.
