Another walk-off winner for Lancer Lee
Every player dreams of a walk-off hit and winning the game in the final at-bat.
Sam Lee has already made her dreams come true at Rogers Park this week — twice.
After a sacrifice fly to win third-ranked North Scott’s (28-14 overall) quarterfinal game on Tuesday, she did again to fourth-ranked Charles City (36-4) on Wednesday night.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Lee roped a single to the outfield to plate Kate Hayes, pushing the Lancers into the state championship with a 3-2 victory.
North Scott will face No. 1 Carlisle (37-3) in Friday’s 4A championship on Kruger Seeds Field (Diamond 1) at 5:45 p.m.
The Lancers needed a little magic in the bottom of the seventh as well, as they scored two runs to force the game into extra innings.
Lee finished the contest with two hits and the lone Lancer RBI.
Drew Lewis (2-2) picked up only her second victory of the season, in 3ª innings of relief. She gave up three hits and struck out six batters. Ryan Cheek struck out 11.
Lydia Staudt had two hits and scored a run for Charles City. Ashlyn Hoeft had a two run homer for the Comets.
Charles City will play West Delaware in the Class 4A third place game on Friday. The game is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. on Iowa Central Field (Diamond 2).
