Fort Dodge girls lose to Boone

BOONE — The Fort Dodge girls tennis team lost their Class 2A regional match to Boone, 5-1 on Saturday night.

Senior Anna Bruen earned the lone win of the night, knocking off Myria Bernard 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.

“We were pretty evenly matched,” said Fort Dodge head coach Martha Stover. “Three of the six singles matches went to third set super tie-breaker.

“Anna played the best she’s played all season and her shots were great strokes. She was solid, steady and patient and that’s nice to see when you’re a senior and playing in potentially your last match.”

Stover thought the Dodgers had a solid showing, even with the loss.

“Gretta (Leigh) played a long match,” Stover said. “She came off of some long rallies.

“Beth lost to Davi Patterson, who was a state runner-up last year.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Thursday when they host individual regionals at the Dodger Courts at 9 a.m.
