The Fort Dodge Choral Society will present its last concert of the season at 3 p.m. May 4 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 239 N. 11th St.
Titled "Creation of the World," the program will feature the selections "The Creation, Part 1," an oratorio written in the late 1700s by Joseph Haydn, and the cantata "A New Creation" by contemporary composer Rene Clausen. Guest soloists and orchestra accompaniment will also be highlighted in the performance.
Haydn's "Creation" is a large work in three parts, combining stories from the book of Genesis from the Bible and Milton's "Paradise Lost." The first of the three parts will be performed. Clausen's piece, on the other hand, is a sacred cantata that uses both English and Latin texts. "Set Me as a Seal," one of the last movements, has been excerpted and widely performed on its own.
