Iran holds American prisoner

December 11, 2013
Messenger News

To the editor:

On Oct. 19, Oakhill Baptist, Community Christian School, KJYL Kinship, and the REC center sponsored, Endure for Saeed 5K walk/run for American Pastor Saeed Abedini imprisoned in Iran. Thanks to Northfield Church of Christ and Harlan Rogers Ballpark for a start/finish point and turnaround point. Thank you Rachel Black, Intervarsity for providing music. Thanks to Pelham Blue Ribbon Water, Hy-Vee, and Aldi's for food and drink. Thank you Mike Devine, 1400 AM, who promoted this on his show. As we enter the Christmas season Saeed remains in prison. Naghmeh and their two young children Rebekka (7 years old) and Jacob (5 years old) wait and pray for his release.

Naghmeh Abedini, wife of Saeed, attended from Boise, Idaho. She spoke to the crowd of 160. The next day she spoke to Oakhill Baptist, Humboldt. The event was local and aimed to bring awareness to an international story involving an American who is imprisoned for his belief in Jesus Christ and others incarcerated and persecuted for their faith, a total of $3500 was raised for the persecuted church.

Pastor Saeed has been in Evin prison since Sept. 26, 2012. In November, he was transferred to Rajai Sharar Prison. Since Oct. 19, Sen.Ted Cruz sent President Obama a letter asking him to renew his call for Saeed release. Daily Saeed's physical condition worsens. He is covered with lice, internally his chest hurts and kidneys are aching due to injuries caused by the torture. He is in grave danger for his life because of his faith in Jesus Christ.

On Nov. 25, America came to an agreement with Iran; removing $7 billion dollars in relief from international sanctions in exchange for Iranian curbs on uranium enrichment. During this deal Saeed was not spoken of the president ignored Ted Cruz's letter. It's outrageous that the United States would ease sanctions on Iran, and still fail to secure the release of American Pastor Saeed Abedini. It is unconscionable that the president has surrendered our leadership in the Middle East, and left an American behind. The Obama administration did find it necessary to free an Iranian scientist from American prisons, a scientist who can create a weapon of mass destruction for the Iranians.

I encourage you to pray.
