Heather Stanek, formerly of Fort Dodge, is among 14 finalists whose projects are being considered in the Beneful Dream Dog Park Contest.

Stanek, now of Salina, Kan., and her dog, Athens, a German shepherd-terrier mix, are hoping to win $500,000 for dog park for her city.

The 25-year-old is a St. Edmond graduate who, in the contest's first round, had to submit a photo of herself and Athens, along with a 250-word essay describing her dream dog park, which she called Dog Island.

For the second round, Stanek was required to submit a two-minute video, which was posted on YouTube.

Voting is open until Dec. 2. To vote for Stanek and Athens, go to: beneful.com/Dream-Dog-Park/Finalists 2013. Individuals may vote once per day.

Stanek's YouTube video is also posted.
