ROCKWELL CITY - Richard W. Picht 63, passed away Monday, October 14, 2013 at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life Servicewill be 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Lake City Union Church in Lake City, with Rev. Beth Harbaugh officiating. Private burial of casket will be at Lake City Cemetery, before the service. Visitation and viewing will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
Rich is survived by his wife Connie; sons, Brian (Jodi) Picht of Chandler, AZ, and Shawn (Eden) Picht of Ankeny; three grandchildren, Natalie, Brenna, and Alex Picht;brother Jim (Nancy) Picht of Audubon; sisters, Lorene (Tony) Knobbe of Davenport, and Janene (Mike) Vonahmme of Glidden; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Carmen (Clark) Picht.
Richard William Picht was born July 24, 1950 at Lake City, Iowa. He graduated from Lake City High School, with the Class of 1968. On February 14, 1970, he was united in marriage to Connie Kolbe at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rockwell City. The couple lived in Rockwell City all their married life. In 1978, Rich was employed at Hunt Trucking until 1994. He worked for Proliant in Lytton for a short time before becoming Truck Driving Director for Iowa Central Community College. In 2000, he became Truck Driving Director for Western Iowa Tech for several years. He then worked for Obergs Freight Co. in Fort Dodge until his retirement in 2009 due to his health. Rich was an avid fisherman and loved his family. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and also was involved with the All Star Reading Program at the Elementary School.
