STRATFORD - A Stratford man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly set himself and a family member on fire Tuesday afternoon.

David Alan Lundberg, 43, is accused of pouring gasoline around himself in a garage at a residence in Stratford, according to the Hamilton County sheriff's office. A family member tried to stop Lundberg from lighting the fuel, but failed and both were burned.

Dakota Buse, 20, of Stratford, was initially taken to Van Diest Medical Center after the incident, but was later airlifted to the Iowa Burn Unit in Iowa City.

Lundberg was treated for burns at Van Diest Medical and released.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Lundberg is charged with willful injury, domestic abuse assault and reckless use of fire.

According to the press release, prior to the fire someone called 911 to report a male who had been drinking was trying to leave the residence. The fire occurred while officers were en route to Stratford.

Lundberg is being held in the Hamilton County Jail in Webster City.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Ellsworth-Jewell-Stanhope Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Stratford Fire and Rescue, Van Diest Medical Center, Life Flight and the Hamilton County attorney's office.
