On-farm food tour set Sept. 15

EAGLE?GROVE - Healthy Harvest of North Iowa, in partnership with local farmers, Iowa State University Extension and sponsors, has scheduled an on-farm tour from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 15 in Wright County.

Those attending may start at any of the farms and attend as many as they wish.

Host stops are:

C's 270th St. Gardens, owned by Cheryl and Carl Johnson, 3323 270th St, Eagle Grove. Visitors may tour the gardens, including the movable high tunnel, see farm-raised chicken system, sample and pick up cooking tips from the Iowa Central Community College culinary students.

Boone River Bison, owned by Don Garret, 1111 255th St. Eagle Grove. Meet the big, wooly beasts. Learn about the qualities of their meat and enjoy some of Garret's famous stories.

Boone River Grill, owned by Rachel Cahalan, 1127 270h St., In Eagle Grove. The business promotes fresh and local products.

Fresh on the Farm in the Eagle Grove area is sponsored by Wright County Extension, Healthy Harvest of North Iowa, and a North Central Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education grant.
