Phyllis Lorraine (Scharf) Demery, 76, of Phoenix, Ariz., died August 13, 2013 at home.
She was born Oct. 9, 1936 to Arthur and Jenette (Pooler) Scharf. She grew up in Fort Dodge and married Colin Demery on Dec. 27, 1953 in Fort Dodge. They raised their family in Fort Dodge, Des Moines and Boone. She enjoyed reading, traveling, theatre and time spent with family. Phyllis was a medical office manager.
She is survived by her husband of 59 and three-quarter years, Colin; daughter Dawn Chernko (Sean Milne) of Phoenix, Ariz.; son Dart (Emily) Demery of Boone, Iowa; sister Colleen (Roger) Smith; brothers, Bruce (Marcia) Scharf and Dean (Alice) Scharf; grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Peter, Jeremy Peter, Deacon Demery and Drew Demery; great-grandchildren, Kylie Peter, Cole Peter and Madison Peter; and her little dog Luna.
She was preceded in death by brother Emmett Scharf and his wife Norma Jean and brother Ed Scharf and his wife Pat.
Phyllis donated her body to Arizona State University so that they can further study Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which she was afflicted by. There will be a Life Celebration at a later date.
