WEBSTER CITY - Gary Whittenbaugh, a conifer expert, will present "Gardening Out of Your Comfort Zone," at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Webster City.
His presentation will dare gardeners to be different in their gardens or landscapes both through less-common plants and less-common garden types. Some of the perennials he is familiar with include Korean Stewartia, Weeping Katsura, Redvein Enkianthus, Dwarf Mountain Love, Indian Pink and Sandwort.
Whittenbaugh, of Oelwein, has been gardening for more than 38 years with an emphasis on dwarf, slow-growing and unusual conifers, plus trough and rock gardening. He has earned numerous distinctions including a Lifetime Master Gardener award, and a service award from the American Conifer Society.
The program is sponsored by the Town and Country Garden Club in observance of National Garden Club Week. Refreshments will follow. The public is welcome.
