Driver charged in car/bus crash

POCAHONTAS COUNTY - No passengers on a Pocahontas Area School Distict bus were injured when a car rear-ended the bus Tuesday morning.

According to the Pocahontas County Sheriff's Department, the crash was reported at 7:33 a.m.

The bus, driven by Dean Williams, of Pocahontas, was stopped at railroad tracks westbound on Iowa Highway 15 when a 2003 Pontiac Grand AM driven by John Simpson, 19, of Rolfe, struck the bus from the rear.

The bus received minimal damage and no injuries were reported to Williams or the 15 passengers on the school bus. Simpson and a female passenger were taken by ambulance to the Pocahontas Community Hospital to be treated for undetermined injuries.

Simpson was cited for failure to stop in an assured clear distance.

The Pocahontas County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Rolfe Fire Department, Pocahontas Ambulance and the Iowa State Patrol.

Two motorcycle

riders injured

OTHO - Two people received minor injuries after the motorcycle they were riding was involved in an accident with a car Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Jim Stubbs said the accident happened at the intersection of 250th Street and Madison Avenue around 8:56 a.m.

A car, which Stubbs said was being driven by Michael Adams, 19, was heading eastbound on 250th Street when it stopped at Madison Avenue.

"He apparently decided to spin in a circle in the middle of the intersection," he said. "A male and female were following in a motorcycle behind him. They got too close and ran into the back of the car."

Though Stubbs did not have the names of the people on the motorcycle, he did say they knew Adams.

The two motorcycle riders were taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center and had been released by Tuesday afternoon, according to Stubbs.

He added he wasn't sure why Adams was spinning around in the middle of the road.
