Fairgoers at the Webster County Fair will notice some significant changes to both the fairgrounds and events during the fair this year.

A new fairboard has taken over operations of the grounds and members are planning a number of activities for the Webster County Fair, July 10-14.

In recent years, the fair was limited to mostly 4-H and FFA activities, but the board is planning to host events that will bring the community back to the Webster County Fair.

"We're hoping people will see a new and better fair," said Karen Anderson, Fairboard vice president. "The 4-H kids and their families would come out but we are trying get more events that will bring out more people."

Fairboard President Rick Carter said the board is planning new activities and plans to keep the grounds in shape for all events held on site.

On the schedule for this year's fair are a BMX stunt show, trailer races, figure 8 races, a presentation by the Pella Wildlife Co. and attraction such as a climbing wall, giant slide and mechanical bull.

Several vendors will also be onsite during the fair.

"This year we will have the A-frame building open and full of vendors," said Anderson. "We are working on a full schedule."

"We'll have a pony pull, and we're bring back figure 8 races," said Carter. "There will be a photography show and the Wild Turkey Federation will be out doing some kids' activities."

The fairboard will also team up with the Fort Dodge Camera Club to hold an open class photography exhibit.

"One category in the photography exhibit will be 'hidden treasures of Webster County,'" said Anderson. "All of those photos will be of local things around Webster County. This will be open to anyone."

A full summer schedule of Figure 8 races will also return to the fairgrounds racetrack after an absence of several years.

"There hasn't been Figure 8 racing for a few years," she said. "We will be bringing that back with a full schedule this summer."

The fairboard has also been busy over the past year with upkeep of buildings on the grounds, making improvements and helping with events. They are currently in the process of hiring a new groundskeeper.

"We've been doing everything from being janitor to snow removal," said Anderson. "We've really learned a lot about keeping things going, but it has been worth it to bring everything back."
