Walter C. Schuur, Sr., 80, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013, from cancer. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 26, 2013, St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Walter was born at home in Pocahontas County on April 21, 1932 where he was raised helping his father farm, developing a love for John Deere tractors. He attended Pocahontas country schools and Bradgate High School. He started working for Tobin Packing Company in 1950 where he met and married Helen Dewey on December 1, 1950. He retired from Geo A. Hormel's Packing Plant in 1982. He worked for Trinity Regional Hospital for 12 years, retiring in 1994. He then worked part-time for Hy-Vee and Disco Drug, retiring after 15 years. His wife Helen passed away in 1979. He married Marlene White February 20, 1988.

He loved to camp, where they served as host and hostess at Kennedy Park several times during the summer months. He was a frequent customer at Village Inn with his retirement group from Hormel's on Wednesday mornings and on Saturday mornings with his children. He loved to visit with his customers when making deliveries for Disco Drug. He will be greatly missed for his warm hugs and big heart.

Walt is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marlene, his children Walt Jr. and Roxanne, Badger; daughter-in-law, Allyson Schuur, Colorado Springs, CO; Wanda (Curtis) Martens, Callender; Dennis Schuur (Lynn), Muscatine; Jeffrey Schuur, Fort Dodge; Joanna (Ned) Wilson, Urbandale; Kevin (Jenny) Bohn, Fort Dodge; Martin (Sherri) White, Badger; and Michelle (Rick) Dorage, Callender; sisters Mildred (Charles) Lombard, Fort Dodge, Eleanore (Jack) Strobel, Newton; brother, David (Rosemary) Schuur, Rockwell City. He has 18 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen (Dewey) Schuur and son, Vern Schuur, his parents George and Lydia Schuur, and one brother, Donald Schuur.
