KANAWHA The annual meeting and educational program of the Iowa State University Research Farm will be March 14 at the Wesley Community Center in Wesley. Coffee and rolls will be served at 8:30 a.m., and the program will begin at 9 a.m. Meeting topics include a detailed discussion of Iowa's new Nutrient Reduction Strategy and a weather update from Dr. Elwynn Taylor. The program will adjourn at 2 p.m. Membership in the association is not required to attend this meeting.
Anyone planning to attend is asked to pre-register by Thursday at the ISU Extension Office in Garner, (641) 923-2856, or in Clarion, 532-3453.
Dr. John Lawrence, Matt Helmers and Antonio Mallarino, will discuss Iowa's Nutrient Reduction Strategy. They will provide background and answer questions about the strategy. Following their presentation research farm board members will lead a discussion of potential local research needed to help farmers implement this strategy.
Lunch will be provided by three local cooperative elevators: Gold-Eagle, North Central and MaxYield.
Following lunch, Taylor will update farmers on current weather patterns and discuss the impact of last year's drought on the 2013 crop.
