DES MOINES - Nikko Wheeler's dream of reaching the state championship round came to an end in the semifinals late Friday night.
The Humboldt junior lost by fall to third-ranked Steven Holloway (45-3) of Mediapolis in 2:41.
In his quarterfinal contest earlier in the day, Wheeler defeated Cole Bonde by a 10-2 major decision.

Wheeler, who was a middle school student in the Fort Dodge district, will now face seventh-ranked Jay Reisetter of East Marshall in the consolation semifinals. The winner will wrestle for third and the loser for fifth.
After falling in the first round on Thursday and bouncing back with a win, second-ranked Reed Dreyer (38-5) bounced back with two wins on Friday to advance to the consolation semifinals for Humboldt.
Dreyer will now face sixth-ranked Alex Macki (39-7) in the consolation semifinals.
Wildcat Dylan Hendricks (37-14) won his first match with a fall over Dalton Hamm of Charles City, before losing 3-1. Hendricks will now wrestle Mario Pena of Hampton-Dumont for seventh place.
Greene County's Jeremy Scheuermann (41-7) won his second-round consolation match by pinning Blake Gjerde of Estherville-Lincoln Central in 3:27 before losing. He'll now wrestle for seventh against Bondurant-Farrar's Patrick Rooney.
Jordan Challen (38-11) bowed out with a 7-2 loss to Mitchell Borer of Ballard at 132 pounds.
South Central Calhoun
Eighth-ranked Chase Goodman (51-6) exited the tournament with a 10-1 loss to Tanner Cowan of Centerville at 126 pounds.
Rylan Richardson (44-13) fell 5-0 to Carter Isley of Chariton at 182.
Third-ranked Dylan Fielder had a tough fight in his 182 pound quarterfinal, but lost a sudden victory contest to fourth-ranked Luke Sargent of Southeast Polk.
Fielder (39-3) bounced back with two victories. He defeated Hunter Hoffmann of Glenwood with a fall in 1:57. In the consolation third round, he slipped past Tyler Frideres of Algona 7-5.
Fielder will now face top-ranked Justin Kreiter (46-4) of North Scott in the consolation semifinals.
After prevailing in his opening match at 285 pounds, Landon Johnson (33-10) dropped two straight matches to bow out of the tournament.
He lost his quarterfinal match to top-ranked Pedro Gomez of Marshalltown. He was then defeated 6-4 by Newton's Derrick Hurt in the consolation second round.
Third-ranked Connor Larson was pinned by Burlington's Dalton Witte in 5:18 and eliminated from the tournament.
The Algona wrestling team sent seven wrestlers to the state meet, and four will compete for seventh-place medals.
Kory Kuecker (37-5) beat Southeast Polk's Dylan Buchheit 6-4 in the second round consolation before coming up short in the third round. Kuecker (138) will square off with Indianola's Landon BeLieu for seventh.
Joe Teague (170) defeated Sam Pickard of Ankeny 9-5 before being edged 4-2 to Dustin Fuller. Teague (30-9) will meet Andrew Landgrebe of Oskaloosa for seventh.
Tyler Frideres (182) dropped Austin Lear 6-2 and then lost to Fielder. Frideres (34-11) takes on Justin Dilks of Mount Pleasant for seventh here today.
Weston Shaw (152) and Garrett Johnson (195) both lost their quarterfinal matches.
Shaw dropped a 10-2 major decision to Western Dubuque's fourth-ranked Dawson Nemmers. He then bounced back with a 5-3 win over Joe Pancratz of North Scott, before being clipped 4-3 by Ethan Ruby of Council Bluffs Lewis Central.
Shaw will face Stone Sturges of Mason City for seventh place.
Jacob Adams (126) lost 3-1 to Indianola's Joe McGinnis was eliminated.
