DES MOINES - The Clarion-Goldfield wrestling team placed fourth in Class 1A at the state dual tournament here Wednesday inside Wells Fargo Arena.
The fifth-seeded Cowboys (13-4 overall) advanced to the semifinals with a 42-33 victory over Sumner-Fredericksburg in the quarterfinals. Top-seeded Alburnett - the eventual 1A champion - then moved past C-G with a 56-24 win.
The Cowboys suffered a 35-30 setback against No. 2 Woodbury Central in the consolation finals.
Emmetsburg also participated in the 1A field. The sixth-seeded E-Hawks (20-6) were bounced by No. 3 Eddyville-Blakesburg in round one, 36-31.
In the first-round consolation match, Emmetsburg prevailed over Audubon, 43-36. Sumner-Fredericksburg handled the E-Hawks in the fifth-place match, 61-18.
Alburnett beat E-B in the finals, 60-21, to cap a 32-1 duals campaign.
No. 2 seed Davenport Assumption (26-5) captured the 2A duals state championship with a 30-29 victory over top-seeded and previously-unbeaten West Delaware.
Top-ranked Southeast Polk (29-0) rocked defending 3A champ Bettendorf to claim the large-school crown, 46-20.
