CLARION - The 10th-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond wrestling team failed to earn a spot in the state duals field Tuesday night, falling to Aplington-Parkersburg in a regional duals semifinal, 41-31.
Competing without the services of district qualifier Kaden McClintock, the Gaels were unable to overcome several bonus points scored by the Falcons.
"We came out flat," SEHS head coach Tanner Utley said. "That caught up to us. We gave up too many bonus points, and the two open weights didn't make it easier on us."
Teddie Harvey, Dillon Nelson, Vinnie Harvey and Eddie Harvey all earned falls for St. Edmond (19-7 overall), while Ryan Szalat scored a major decision victory and Colten Lastine won by decision.
"Eddie was the wrestler of the meet for us," Utley said. "He went out and took care of business; I just wish the rest of the kids would have."
Harvey, a senior, "really finished off a storybook career in tremendous fashion," Utley stated.
