LUELLA HOLST BERKLAND

WEBSTER CITY - Luella Holst Berkland, 95, of Webster City, Iowa, went to her Heavenly Home on January 21, 2013. A service honoring Luella's life will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Deer Creek Township, with the Rev. William Van Nostrand officiating. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. The visitation is from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Luella is survived by her children, Shirley Bowman, Janet (Robert) Kinne, Ron (Sue) Holst, Paul (Kay) Holst; step-children, Lois Klobuchar, Arlet (Jerald) Johnson, Lyndon (Diana) Berkland, & Eldon (Wendy) Berkland; step-daughter-in-law Melva Berkland; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Luella Hett, Anna Holst, Beverly Meyer, LaVaun, Lorna & Lorraine Berkland; and brother-in-law Victor Holst. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, William Holst & Reuben Berkland, brothers, Lawrence & Wayne Meyer; sister Marie Gronewold; granddaughter, Tara Holst, step son-in-law, Dick Lura, son-in-law, Paul Bowman; and step-son William Berkland.

Luella Meyer was born August 19, 1917 at Pomeroy, IA to William & Anna Stahlbock Meyer. She graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School, Pomeroy IA. She was united in marriage to William Holst & they made their home in the Deer Creek area. He preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to Reuben Berkland in 1960 & they remained on the farm until 1985 when they moved into Fenton. Formerly of Fenton, she was a resident of Crestview Nursing & Rehab, Webster City, for the past four years.

Luella enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting, crocheting, sewing, her doll collection and caring for her family. She will be remembered being fiercely independent in character and one who always persevered through the difficulties of life. She was a member of St John's Lutheran, DePew IA and Martha Circle.
