MARJORIE ROBINSON GIRDLEY

Marjorie Robinson Girdley, 92, of Fort Dodge, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center. Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with Rev Scott Hatton officiating. Interment will be in the mausoleum at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Marj was born June 4, 1920 in Evansville, Arkansas. The daughter of Ott and Audray Robinson, Marj grew up in Stilwell, Oklahoma and Los Angeles, California. She graduated from Stilwell High School and attended secretarial business school. In 1941 she met "Red" Girdley at a USO dance in Oklahoma City and two weeks later they were married. She was his "bride" for nearly 64 years. After the war, they settled down in Wichita Falls, Texas where they raised their daughter, Carol Anne, and son, John. Marj worked for many years as a medical secretary for the Reagan Urology Group there.

She moved to Fort Dodge with her husband in 1967 and worked at the Kersten Clinic while Red built his transmission business here. In the mid-seventies, Marj changed career and began helping her husband and son at the offices of Automatic Service Center Inc. She did bookkeeping and was exceptionally good in charming customers into paying their overdue accounts. After retiring" in 1985, both Marj and Red were still active in the family business as well as the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association. ATRA is an international trade association and Marj and Red traveled extensively promoting the organization and its training programs around the country.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter Carol Anne (John) Wilson, son John (Millie) Girdley, three grandchildren, Cynthia (Lee) Machado, Matt (Angela) Girdley, Naomi (Dave) Countryman, and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, younger sister Imogene, husband Red, and grandson Joshua Girdley.

The family requests memorial be left to Trinity Hospice.
