CARROLL - The St. Edmond wrestling team lived up to its ninth-ranked (Class 1A) billing Saturday, earning a title at the Tiger-Knight Invitational.
The Gaels racked up 208 points, followed by Manson Northwest Webster (178), Guthrie Center (158.5) and Pocahontas Area (132.5).
Ryan Szalat (106), No. 5 Kaden McClintock (113), fourth-ranked Teddie Harvey (152), Dillon Nelson (182) and No. 1 Vinnie Harvey (220) were all individual champions for SEHS, while Nick Johnson (126) and Matt Stumpf (138) each settled for runner-up honors and Jacob Salisbury (195) was third.
"We're a little beat up, but this was a good bounce back effort (from Thursday night's triangular with Perry and Carroll)," said Gael head coach Tanner Utley. "For Stumpf and Salisbury to get second and third in their first year as wrestlers was nice to see. Nick Johnson was also a tough kid (yesterday)."
Chase Craven (145) checked in fourth, as well, for St. Edmond, and Jimmy Averill (170), Payton Sitzmann (120) and Eddie Harvey (132) were all fifth.
"Our consolation wrestlers helped us seperate ourselves in the team standings," Utley said. "We just have to keep the momentum going."
