AUBERN - Elizabeth "Betty" Lois Bachman, 87, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30a.m. Saturday, December 1st at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburn. Celebrant will be Fr. Lynn Bruch and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Auburn. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with a Rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m.

Betty was born October 5, 1925 to Alphonse and Elna (Dyer) Fangman in Petersburg, IA. The family lived in several Iowa locations including Emmetsburg, Alta, Davenport and Lake City. Betty graduated from Lake City High School in 1943. In support of the war effort, she went to Washington D.C. and worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. When the war ended in 1945, she returned to Lake City where she worked for Dr. Hobart at McVay Hospital. On January 20, 1948 she married Othmar Bachman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City. She is survived by her husband, Othmar "Ott" of Carroll, and their 12 children; Delaine (Duane) Petersen of Cedar Rapids, Mike (Donna) Bachman of Carroll, Rich (Barb) Bachman of Menlo, Tom Bachman of Auburn, Janice (Ken) Hanson of Duncombe, Stanley (Candy Morrow) Bachman of Lake City, Marilyn (Herb) Schaefer of Cedar Rapids, Judy (Rick) Handlos of Lake City, David Bachman of Detroit, MI, Barb (Dennis) Cook of Des Moines, Susan (Kirk) Meyer of Cedar Rapids, and Dean (Jackie) Bachman of Watertown, WI. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law. Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Art, two grandsons, Tyler Cook and Matt Petersen, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, and many other loving relatives and friends.
