Zach Benjamin, of Troop 588 in Fort Dodge, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. To achieve the Eagle Scout award, a Scout must participate in a major project. With the help of Matt Cosgrove and the staff at Webster County Conservation, Benjamin and his troop built a rain garden/rock garden to absorb runoff from a gravel parking lot.To get plants for the rain garden, Zach and his troop spent a couple hours one Saturday morning at the Prairie Resource Center south of Brushy Creek. Under the guidance of DNR Biologist Bill Johnson, the Scouts transplanted more than 1,000 seedlings into individual containers. At the rain garden site, the Scouts spread fresh soil and mulch, and then planted more than 500 individual flowering plants native to Iowa.
