Webster County generosity

Residents in Webster County are incredibly generous with their time and money. That generosity helps our region to thrive. Locally, we have various nonprofits who benefit from monetary donations and time spent with hands-on work.

We have many Growth Alliance Ambassadors who spend time volunteering in our community. Just being an Alliance Ambassador is a volunteer role, giving of their time to act as representatives of the Growth Alliance and the community at public and private events such as ribbon cuttings and other celebrations, Many Growth Alliance members also volunteer by giving tours to potential new hires for other member businesses. Outside of the Growth Alliance, our Ambassadors are involved in numerous causes and are active participants in helping foster a community of pride and giving.

Financial giving is one way to show your support to a cause you care about, but giving of your time is also valuable. Find something that you are passionate about, or would like to know more about, and volunteer to get involved. It is not only helpful to the agency you are working with, but it is beneficial to you as a person. Volunteering can help combat the effects of stress, can increase self confidence and can provide a sense of purpose. Being an active volunteer gives us the community we have.

The United Way of Greater Fort Dodge and Community Foundation has long been a fixture in our world of community giving. They provide assistance, programming, and education to our community.

Little Free Libraries are scattered around town, promoting literacy; and Meals on Wheels brings hot, nutritious meals to our homebound residents.

Our trail system is expanding thanks to the Fort Dodge Community Foundation.

These are just a few of the ways this organization is improving lives of current and future residents.

Nonprofits contribute to our overall quality of life. They help to make the greater Fort Dodge area a great place to live and raise a family. In addition, if there is a family who needs a little extra help, they are there to offer a helping hand. And by donating to organizations that align with your values, you are taking an active role in what happens in your community.

Because so many people give of their time and resources, we truly have a strong community. The Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance wants to thank everyone who does their part to make this happen. It is through community giving that we can continue to move forward.

Dennis Plautz is the chief executive officer of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance.
