ICCC announces Hall of Fame nominees, Homecoming activities

Alumni from across the country will soon gather at Iowa Central Community College to celebrate its annual Homecoming. One of the highlights of the weekend is inducting the 2018 Hall of Fame nominees.

“Iowa Central serves as the catalyst for thousands of students who go on to achieve great things and serve their communities well. Our Hall of Fame banquet allows Iowa Central, fellow alumni, faculty and staff to recognize their contributions and achievements,” said Dr. Dan Kinney, Iowa Central president.

The annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held Oct. 13. Mary Ludwig, executive director of development and alumni, said nine people will be recognized.

The three areas of recognition include the Triton Humanitarian award, Distinguished Alumni award, and Triton Athletic Award.

• Genevieve and the late Leo Crimmins will be honored with the Humanitarian Award for their support and dedication to Iowa Central and the greater Fort Dodge community.

• Mark Mittelstadt, class of 1973, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award for his outstanding achievements and lifetime career with The Associated Press.

• William Thatcher will also be recognized with Distinguished Alumni Award. Thatcher, who attended in 1966-67, has spent more than 35 years practicing law, including more than 25 years as a magistrate judge in Fort Dodge, and volunteering for numerous local organizations.

In the Athletic Award division, inductees are the late Denny Myers who served as the head Iowa Central track and field coach, football great Brett Graybill, professional bareback rider Tim O’Connell, national wrestling champion Dave Morgan and the 1972 football team.

The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with a social hour and a silent auction which includes a wide variety of items including sports memorabilia, themed baskets, restaurant gift certificates, tuition certificates, electronics and much more. Inductees will be honored starting at 6 p.m. Following the ceremony, a socializing dinner with heavy hors d’oeuvres and live music will begin. Tickets for the event are now available for sale at the Triton Bookstore and in the administration office, for $20 each. You can follow the event by liking the event on the Iowa Central Facebook page, at www.Facebook. com/iowacentral.

Prior to the Hall of Fame ceremony, all Iowa Central fans are encouraged to attend the Homecoming football game. The Tritons face the Dodge City, Kansas Conquistadors with a noon Kickoff at Dodger Stadium.

During Homecoming week, additional activities are planned for students. Bingo & Pizza Night will kick things off on Oct. 8; followed by Mini-Golf Night at Fort Frenzy on Oct. 9; Triton Volleyball vs. Kirkwood, followed by a bonfire and fireworks on Oct. 10; and a pep rally on Oct. 12.

Also highlighting the week is the annual Fall Play. The Theatre Department takes the Decker Auditorium stage with “Trouble in Paradise Junction” on Oct. 11 through Oct. 13. Showtime is 7 p.m. each night. Tickets for the Fall Play are $10 for adults/$5 for students and are also available at the Triton Bookstore.
