Police officer killings

To the editor:

Once again, police officers in the United States of America were killed in an ambush style murder. This one hits close to home.

Urbandale Police Officer Justin Martin (Rockwell City native) and Sgt. Tony Beminio (Eagle Grove native) were obviously murdered for no reason other than they wore a badge and police uniform which represents law and order and protection of every citizens rights.

The support shown by the citizens of Urbandale and throughout the state of Iowa is most commendable and comforting, I am certain, to the officers family. A police officer “family” includes all other active and retired peace officers in their respective community, the State of Iowa and throughout America

Initial information suggests the accused killer in this situation suffers primarily from mental and other issues.

From a broader perspective, constructive criticism of certain police agency policies and actions at certain times may be warranted, I also hope that political activists within government, certain religious communities and other groups temper their public remarks in a responsible and appropriate manner and refrain from an “anti-police” mentality.
