Seminar is a success

To the editor:

Once again, we recently had the opportunity to present a great gardening seminar. Sponsored by the Fort Dodge Area Gardeners, the Webster County Extension/Iowa Master Gardeners, and Iowa Central Community College, we had a full morning.

Our annual garden seminar was held on March 5, and we had the pleasure to hear two great speakers. Jane Hogue, from the Prairie Pedlar in Odebolt, talked about new perennial varieties and planting for summer-long color. Our second speaker was Aaron Steil from Reiman Gardens in Ames. He spoke on the importance of attracting pollinating insects to our gardens. He stressed the planting of a diverse garden, and planting native species in bright colors of white, yellow, blue, purple, and red. He also noted the return of the Lego sculptures to Reiman Gardens this year. The newest addition is a peacock. Wow! If you have not had the pleasure of seeing these sculptures, they are truly amazing.

Our special thanks go to The Dairy Queen, Ampride Truck Stop, Sneakers Eatery and Pub, Domino’s Pizza, 2nd Chance Thrift Store, Ja-Mar Restaurant, T.C. Mae’s Restaurant, Smitty’s Greenhouse, Pizza Ranch, JRG Livestock and Pet Supplies, Citizens Community Credit Union, C&S Products, The Federated Garden Club, Shimkat Motors and Fort Frenzy for graciously donating products as door prizes for our guests.

We had a great morning, and if you have not attended one of our seminars, we hope to see you next year.
