Savor the sweets at It’s a Chocolate Thing

Event benefits Gateway to Discovery

A tasty way to support local women recovering from addiction will be available Saturday,

It is called It’s a Chocolate Thing, and it features scrumptious, perhaps even decadent, sweets plus hot chocolate. And while feasting on all that good stuff, attendees will be supporting Gateway to Discovery.

Gateway to Discovery is an intensive two-year program for women that aims to break the bonds of addiction. The women live together in a Fort Dodge house and work in a studio called Hope Sweet Hope. At Hope Sweet Hope, the make paper artwork, including greeting cards and journals.

Gateway to Discovery started in October 2013 and is one of the newest programs of its kind in the community.

It’s a Chocolate Thing has been its primary fundraiser for the past seven years.

This year’s version, the eighth annual one, will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the East Auditorium at the Webster County Fairgrounds on Old Highway 169 south of Fort Dodge. Admission is $20 per person, with kids age 12 and under admitted free.

At the event, people will get to enjoys all kinds of chocolate, bid on silent auction items and buy tickets for some raffles.

The last of the Halloween candy should be disappearing by now, so it’s time to try out some other sweets. We encourage everyone to head over to It’s a Chocolate Thing to indulge their sweet tooth while at the same time supporting the local women who are brave enough and strong enough to conquer addiction.
