Dancing their way to victory

Tritons sweep recent competition while FDSH also wins accolades

Athleticism and artistry were on full display recently when the Iowa Central Community College dance team won three first place awards in a statewide competition.

During the 44th annual Iowa State Dance Team Association contest in Des Moines, the team swept three classes of competition. It was crowned the champion of the Jazz, Hip Hop and Pom categories.

”In order to do this, they had to not only match their commitment levels each dance, but performance quality and execution,” said dance team coach Cassidy Vermeer. ”During their performances, their chemistry was palpable for the audience. That kind of performance is rare. The bond that our team has is very special.”

The Tritons swept the three categories in state competition once before, in 2017.

Iowa Central has now won 13 consecutive titles in Jazz and seven consecutive titles in Pom.

The Tritons weren’t the only local winners at the competition.

Fort Dodge Senior High School earned Division I ratings in Hip Hop, Jazz and Pom. The Dodgers won third place in Hip Hop and fourth place in Pom.

It was great to have the dance teams from Iowa Central and Fort Dodge Senior High School bring home honors from the competition.

We congratulate all of the talented dancers and wish them the best of luck in future competitions.
