U.S. Secret Service must be reformed

President Barack Obama should be livid about revelations over the Secret Service’s failures in protecting him and his family. All Americans should be angry.

Initially, the Secret Service claimed an intruder who managed to get across the White House lawn last month was stopped just inside the presidential mansion’s front door. But now, the agency has admitted the man, armed with a knife, was able to penetrate deep inside the building. He was tackled in the East Room – after he had gone past a stairway leading to the first family’s living quarters.

Fortunately, the Obama family was not home at the time.

Another admission was that it took the Secret Service four days after a 2011 shooting incident to learn bullets had struck the White House. That was discovered only after a housekeeper noticed broken glass and concrete inside the building.

And finally – we hope – it was revealed that on Sept. 16 in Atlanta, an armed man with three assault convictions was allowed to ride an elevator with Obama.

This is not acceptable. The president, his wife and daughters are in constant danger from lunatics who would harm the most prominent family in the world. The first family needs and deserves the best protection our nation can provide.

Clearly, the Obamas have not been receiving it.

That needs to change. Right now. Members of Congress should demand reforms at the Secret Service, starting immediately.
