DONALD PATZ

Donald Patz, 96, of Barnum, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society, Manson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 13th at 1:30 PM at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Barnum, with Military Rites Conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Holy Trinity Church.

Survivors include his children Tom (Rose) Patz of Clare, David (Marcy) Patz and of Manson, Joann (Randy) Waller of Manson, Bill (Laura) Patz of Clare, Betty Johnson of Fremont, NE, Rose Ann (Allen) Nichols of Cedar Rapids, Carol (Bryan) Stocking of Sioux City, 19 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents Nick and Helen (Coffee) Patz, infant children Susan and Eugene Patz, grandsons Jacob and Justin Johnson, and all his siblings.

Donald Patz was born on December 24, 1925, in Crete, NE. He attended rural schools there and helped on the family farm. In 8th grade the family moved to Manson. At the age of 19 he was drafted into the U.S. Army – serving during WWII from 1942 to 1946, where he was the Jeep driver for General Douglas MacArthur. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Iowa. Don farmed all his life and sold Middlekoop Seed Corn and sweet corn for over 50 years. In 1978, he even built his own lake “Don’s Lake” northwest of Clare which he cherished. He enjoyed fishing, hillbilly sales, and loved to farm. Don was part of the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
