JACOB COPPER

IOWA CITY — Jacob Copper, 41, of Iowa City, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 9, 2022. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Holy Trinity Church with Monsignor Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Masks are encouraged for the visitation and services.

Jacob was born in Fort Dodge on January 5, 1981, to John & Lisa Copper. He grew up in Okoboji where he attended and graduated from High School. He played sports including football, baseball and wrestling.

He also played the trombone and was involved in debate and quiz bowls. He was very intelligent, and he and his brother Sam made it to the Midwest Regional Quiz Bowl where they were on T.V. They also won the Mother’s Day letter contest on WHO radio. He attended a National Youth Council meet and great in Washington D.C. After High School he attended and graduated from the University of Iowa with a double major in Political Science and Religious Studies . He enjoyed camping, hiking, and swimming, he loved movies, reading and Lord of the Rings. Faith was very important to Jacob. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed touring Eastern Iowa churches and learning the history and taking photos. He had his own blog called the Vatican Watcher. He was also a Volunteer of the Year award winner for the Johnson County United Way. He was very determined, humble and a true Gentleman & Scholar.

Jacob is survived by his parents John Copper and Lisa Hall; his brother Samuel; aunts & uncles Greg (Barb) Hall, Patricia Copper, Barb (John) Seviea, Mike Copper, Cathy (Kenny) Beck, Mary (Jim) Clancy, Kevin (Cindy) Copper, Chris (Cindy) Copper, Marjorie (Andy) Stimmel and Greg (Angie) Copper and many cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Delmar & Susan Hall and Gilbert and Colleen Copper; his aunt Susan Hall-Junkman; his uncle Stephen Hall and cousin Christopher Hall.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
