GLENN H. RUDE

Glenn H. Rude, 91, of Fort Dodge, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the Marian Home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, July 22, 2021 in the Chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the start of the service at the funeral home.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 71 years, LaVon Rude of Fort Dodge; son, Darrell (Audrey) Rude of Polk City; and grandchildren, Crystal Bothel and Eric Rude of Omaha, Mike Rude of Ankeny, Melissa Gilliam of Des Moines; and a great-grandson, Tommy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Ebon (Anderson) Rude; son, Steven Rude; and siblings, Ronald Rude, Roy Rude, Howard Rude, Eunice Tanner, and Thelma Claude.

Glenn Harold Rude was born August 30, 1929, in rural Pocahontas County. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural Pocahontas County schools. His family then moved to Fort Dodge and he completed his education in the Fort Dodge school system. On June 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to LaVon Wempe. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge. He worked various jobs in the area and then began his employment with the Iowa Highway Commission as a heavy equipment operator. He retired from the DOT as a supervisor after working there for over 30 years. Glenn and LaVon wintered in Texas, enjoying many tours and shopping in Mexico. In his leisure, he enjoyed woodworking. He remodeled the couple’s home and even made their kitchen cabinets. He also enjoyed making furniture and clocks.
