Oscar S. Askeland, 93, of Fort Dodge, died Tues­day, April 20, 2021, at Unity Point Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center.

A service honoring Oscar’s life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at Grace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dan Kahl officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Oscar is survived by his wife Darlene; his son Cal (Bev) Askeland, Rock Island, Ill.; daughters-in-law, Liz Askeland, Fort Dodge; and Laura Askeland, Mesa, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons, Rod and Brian, and his siblings, Sarah, Helen, Elmer, Mary, George, Agnes and Inez.

Oscar Severin Askeland, the son of Ed and Edna Askeland, was born December 17, 1927, in Thor, Iowa. He attended country school near Thor and later proudly earned his GED through Iowa Central. In 1952, Oscar was united in marriage to Darlene Ihnen at Palmer. Oscar farmed for a short time and later worked at Chantland Engineering at Humboldt.

Oscar enjoyed woodworking, yard work and collecting model John Deere tractors. He liked to play cards, go bowling and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Oscar treasured time spent watching his grandchildren in their activities.
